Church, Bush: commonalities
I read your story "LI Congressman: A controversial stance" [News, April 2], regarding the immigration issues we face and Rep. Peter King's (R-Seaford) comments that the Catholic Church is guilty of a "continuum of arrogance . . . an overbearing and oppressive sense that everything they do is right." It made me think that these same words could very well describe the Bush administration.

You forgot to print this letter from Newsday:
Bishops need to listen to King
Bravo, Rep. Peter King (R-Seaford). It is about time someone stood up to the National Conference of Catholic Bishops ["LI Congressman: A controversial stance," News, April 2].
It is no wonder Cardinal Roger Mahony is calling for amnesty for illegal immigrants. His $200-million Los Angeles Cathedral was vastly funded with donations from Mexican laborers. The conference of bishops is worse than the most corrupt politicians. These bishops seem to be more concerned with the bottom line. They hide, suppress and distort information, especially information regarding the sex scandal.
