Dave Mejias was born in Nassau County and is a resident of North Massapequa. He won a seat on the Nassau County Legislature in November 2003 against a tough Republican opponent with wide-spread name recognition. Dave grew up in Farmingdale, where he attended high school and played on the football team. Farmingdale is part of the area he now represents along with Levittown, North Massapequa, Plainedge, Plainview, Old Bethpage, North Wantagh, South Farmingdale, and the eastern portion of Massapequa.
Dave is committed to improving the lives of his constituents. He believes it’s vitally important to keep the county moving forward and not give it back to the machine politicians who bankrupted the county in the first place. “Holding public office is a tremendous responsibility. I am dedicated to doing all I can to make sure things never go back to the way they were. It’s important for Nassau County residents to have a representative they can trust.” he added.
Dave serves as chairperson of the Economic and Community Development and Labor committee, as well as the Minority Affairs Committee. He also serves as a member of the Finance, Judiciary, and Health and Social Services committees. In his time in office Mejias has brought funding to his district to make it safer for families and promoted common-sense environmental legislation to protect Nassau County’s natural resources. Dave received a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration at the State University of New York at Albany. He then went on to earn a Juris Doctor from Fordham University School of Law. Dave is proud to serve as your Nassau County Legislator and help to bring Nassau back.
In his first two years, he has passed balanced budgets with no tax increases for residents while Nassau County has received ten bond rating upgrades from independent Wall Street rating agencies—more than any other municipality in America. Nassau now has an “A” bond rating for the first time in a decade.

Throughout his first term in office, Mejias has made public safety a top priority. He has improved efforts to keep our children safe from sex offenders by sponsoring the toughest Megan’s Notification Law in New York State, and was also instrumental in the hiring of 457 new police officers since 2004, more than the previous ten years combined. Legislator Mejias is proud that in 2005 Nassau County was rated the safest place to live in America by Forbes Magazine and the FBI.
Mejias has authored several pieces of environmental legislation, including the first local legislation in America banning the sale of arsenic-treated wood for residential use. He has also sponsored a county tax exemption for home solar power systems, supported the county’s purchase of more “green” renewable energy, and dramatically increased the fines for those who use ATVs in county parks and preserves.
In an effort to bring government to the people Mejias has hosted over 40 town hall meetings throughout his district, including the first ever to be held in the Fourteenth Legislative District. These meetings are designed to keep residents informed on what is going on in their community, helping seniors with their tax exemptions and providing guidance for residents on how to challenge their assessments.
Through the Nassau County Legislature, Legislator Mejias has secured $125,000 for various projects in the Village of Farmingdale, including renovations for the Village Hall and improvements to several parks. He has also supplied $50,000 to the Farmingdale School District for gang prevention programs, and distributed close to $40,000 in community revitalization money to his local fire departments for firefighting and emergency rescue equipment, such as portable defibrillators.
Legislator Mejias serves as chairperson of the Economic and Community Development & Labor Committee, as well as the Minority Affairs Committee. He also serves as vice chair of the Public Safety Committee and Planning, Development & the Environment Committee, and is a member of the Judiciary and Rules Committees.
In the private sector, Legislator Mejias started his own law firm at the age of 26. He is now the managing partner of David L. Mejias & Associates, with law offices in Westbury and Hempstead.

Legislator Mejias was raised in Farmingdale and played football at Farmingdale High School (Class of 1988). He later graduated from SUNY Albany, where his was Vice President of the Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity. He earned his JD from Fordham Law School, where he was Vice President of the Latin American Law Student Association. Mejias currently resides in North Massapequa, and is a member of the Farmingdale Rotary Club, the Order of the Sons of Italy in America, the National Jewish Democratic Council, Concerned Citizens Association of Farmingdale, the Greater Long Island Running Club (avid runner), and an honorary board member of the American Jewish Committee, Long Island Chapter.

I hate to tell all you detractors - Carman and Sabellico outspent Mejias by a ratio of 2 or 3 to 1. And they still could not beat him. So who is going to have their ass handed to them???????? Dave - PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE RUN!!!!!! King has got to go.

Comparing Congressman King to Sabellico and Carman is like comparing Eliot Spitzer to Johnny Rennehack. It is like comparing apples to retarded oranges.

Check out page 2 of today's Newsday - looks like we have our candidate - THANKS DAVE!

That's just great; a Hispanic activist on immigration in a 90% white district. King wins 55-45.

It will be in Newsday shortly

I think you guys are confusing David Mejias with David Denenberg. David Denenberg dropped out of the race and Dave Mejias stepped up to the plate. Mejias was asked to defer to Denenberg back in January when he was first contemplating a race against King.
